GIFT OF CROSSFIT
Three years later and I can still remember my first CrossFit WOD experience just like it was yesterday! In fact, that feeling of “I might die, because I can’t breath or move” still happens. You all have been there, you know what I’m talking about… the part when you lay on the ground and don’t want to move!
My CrossFit journey has given me many “firsts”. First time to do a pull-up, first time to do a muscle-up. First time to try and try and still not be able to do everything, first time to compete in an event with 3 or 4 workouts in one weekend, first team competition. I look back at where I started…
In Rob Conner’s carport with very little equipment and the three of us (Rob, Michael, and I), would do workout. I remember my first WOD had a run in it, that was around the block. I could barely make it to the end of the street!!! I wanted to quit and go back to bed!! I remember running to the corner to where Mike and Rob couldn’t see me and started walking…that’s right I WALKED, and it was a lot of walking, but you better believe that as soon as I came around that corner to where they could see me again I started to jog…very slowly! I did finish…eventually!
It’s those “first” moments that help me through times when I get disappointed because I didn’t do as well as I would have liked.. Three years ago I don’t think I could have even held the bar over my head! So when you get that discouraging or disappointing feeling, remember where you started and push yourself harder! Practice, practice, practice, over, over and over. I now have the confidence that I can do anything as long as I try!
So, what’s the point of this story… not sure if there is one! I just wanted to share what CrossFit Memphis has done for me! It’s given me an even more blessed life! I have a wonderful husband because of it! Friends like no other, and a lifestyle that will let me enjoy every part of it! I know that when I walk through those pearly gates I will have lived a life fully!
So remember, when you feel like you can’t do something…you can! You CrossFit!! And the best part is you have a lot of people to support you!! :)

Garage Games 2011 Team Faction
This year we had 2 teams that competed in Garage Games. What a blast it was!! The team competition had 2 WODs on Friday and 2 WODs on Sunday. Our WODs were:
WOD 1: 2 male and 2 female have to complete 100 pull-ups and 150 push-ups and a 120# sandbag carry up and down a hill about 100 meters 6 times. Only 1 person at a time could do the pull-ups and push-ups, but you could alternate however you wanted. You had to complete to pullups before moving to the pushups. You could have up to 3 people carrying the sandbag.
WOD 2: 8 Minute Deadlift AMRAP: 2 male and 2 female. A total of 395# of plates and 2 bars. While 2 people loaded the bars up with a weight of their choice the other 2 members ran about 400m with a 20# sandbag to a wall climb. They climb the wall then run back with the 20# sandbag and switched with teammates. They ran and completed the wall climb and came back. While the run was being completed by 2 of the members the other members deadlift for reps. All members had to complete the run for the WOD to be completed!
WOD 3: Tug-a-war!!! This was so much fun!!!
WOD 4: 2 male and 2 female. Buy-In 400m Run. Then Stone carry for at least 400m! 65# for female and 115# for males. One male and one female had to carry the stone all the way around the field, we could switch back and forth as needed but the stone could not touch the ground. Then we switched to a Overhead Lunge in unison, men 45#plate and female 25#plate (about 200m). We then went into a Bear Complex (power clean, front squat, push press, to back squat, push press) 95# for female and 135# for male. Each bar had to complete 20 reps. Then we went back to the lunges, then picked up the stones and carried them back to the finish which was were we started!
This was absolutely one of the best and hardest weekends! We learned a lot and accomplished a lot! So next team competition here we come!!
